Reduction of the Application Period to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) from 6 to 4 months


The period for application to the European Court of Human Rights, which was previously stipulated as 6 months in the first paragraph of Article 35 of the ECHR, has been reduced to 4 months pursuant to Protocol No. 15, which entered into force on 01 August 2021 and amended the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The implementation of the new time limit, shortened to 4 months to submit applications, which states in paragraph 1 of Article 35 as amended by Protocol No. 15 of the European Convention on Human Rights that “The petitioner may apply to the Court only upon exhaustion of domestic remedies in accordance with generally accepted principles of international law and within four months from the date of the final decision in domestic law.” shall commence on 01 February 2022.
